Holbeach United’s perfect start to the season has landed John Chand the Manager of the Month award for August.
The Tigers’ two Premier Division wins and pair of 2-0 FA Cup successes have been recognised by Chromasport United Counties League chiefs.
Holbeach opened the competitive season with success at Arnold in the FA Cup and followed that up with a 5-1 demolition of reigning league champions Long Bucky on the opening day.
Four days later they returned from Sleaford Town with a 2-0 win and August finished for the Tigers with last Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup success at Kirby Muxloe.
Chand has won the award once before, back in February.
He said: “It’s a nice award for me but it’s only been possible by the lads applying themselves to get some great results so far. It’s down to them.
“It’s funny because we’ve made a good start to the season after an indifferent pre-season, yet last year when we were superb in pre-season we then went and lost our opening league match against Kempston.
“I just hope this award doesn’t bring with it the curse of a change in fortunes for us!”
Meanwhile, with refreshing honesty in the sometimes coy world of football management quotes, Chand admits his next two squads WILL be influenced by a forthcoming match.
The Tigers host Stamford in the FA Cup on Saturday week.
And Chand’s selections for their home games against S&L Corby (Saturday, 3pm) and particularly Blackstones (Wednesday, 7.45pm) will be made with that match in mind.
Chand said: “I’d be lying if I said otherwise. We’ve got a squad of 16 or 17 players, any 11 of which I could put out and know they’ll do a good job.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be setting up to win both matches but certainly the Stamford game will be in my thinking.”
