LOYAL Jonny Allen picked up an awards double at Holbeach United’s end of season bash.
The versatile right sider was named supporters’ player and manager’s player of the season at the Tigers Social Club presentation night.
Fellow midfielder Wes Lewis walked off with the coveted players’ player gong, while Mitch Griffiths (leading scorer) and keeper Alex Bishop (most improved player) also landed silverware.
But it was Allen who was on the receiving end of lavish praise from Tigers boss John Chand.
He said: “Jonny typifies the kind of player we want at this club. He’s Holbeach through and through and is a proper club man.
“It’s an old saying, but if I had 11 players like him in my team I’d be absolutely delighted.
“I can’t speak highly enough of him, he’s a cracking player and a top guy.”
Chand also heaped praise on Lewis, who attracted interest from a number of higher-graded sides in his debut year at Carter’s Park.
The anchor man has already committed himself for next season – and a change in job will make him more readily available for fixtures.
Chand added: “Wes had quite a few offers from elsewhere, but I’m delighted he’s staying with us.
“He’s stayed loyal and will be key to my plans for next season.
“It’s a real bonus that he’ll be available for more games next season, he’s a big player for us.”
The Tigers boss is also hopeful of holding on to Luke Kennedy.
After joining from Wisbech Town mid-season, the midfielder was a key member of the squad for the final few months of the season.
Chand also plans to meet with a number of transfer targets this week as he bids to add to the signings of Adam Jackson and Lewis Brooks.
Awards were also dished out to Holbeach’s Reserves, who successfully retained their Peterborough and District Combination Division One crown.
Leading scorer Dave Wilson was player of the year, with Wayne Congreve chosen as players’ player.
The fans picked Glenn Wells as supporters’ player of the year, with Ainsley Johnson named as the most improved player.
• HOLBEACH have confirmed that their final pre-season friendly of the summer will be against Stotfold on August 6.
The Carter’s Park clash will kick-off at 3pm.
