Having firmly cast the disappointing results of November behind them Spalding United are now hoping to put together a good run to strengthen their position in the top three of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.
Two back to back 3-0 wins – last week at home to Market Drayton and away to Loughborough Dynamo the week before – have gone some way to erasing the memory of a poor November in which the team managed just one point from five league games, with a 5-2 cup win against Carlton Town the only bright spot in that run.
Manager Dave Frecklington commented: “I have been delighted with the response of the players in the last two games.
“We had a couple of key players return to the squad after injury, which was a big help, but you still have to go out there and do it.
“The lads have been superb in the last two games, I couldn’t have asked anything more of them.
“There are no easy games at this level and we have a tough schedule over Christmas.”
The Tulips are away to their FA Trophy conquerors Gresley on Saturday and then face three games over the festive period – at home to Lincoln United on Boxing Day (kick off 3pm), away to Carlton Town on Thursday, December 29, and away to Stamford on Monday, January 2.
Having been unceremoniously dumped out of the cup 4-1 by Gresley, the Tulips will feel they have something to prove on Saturday.
Frecklington added: “If we can get a result at Gresley we are exactly where we want to be in terms of points. We just need to replicate that in the second half of the season.
“We haven’t been out of the top three all season.
“That in itself is quite an achievement.”
