Spalding Grammar School’s senior football team made the perfect start to their LB Cup campaign by blowing away Oundle 5-1.
Grammar were up against it in the early stages, with Oundle bossing the first 15 minutes. But Grammar regrouped and the front three of Casey Lewis, Jake Farrell and Luke Pallister wreaked havoc.
They eventually got the breakthrough when Farrell netted a quick double, the first coming after a mistake from the keeper and the second a header from a Pallister cross.
Lewis made it 3-0 after the break when he met a Chris Briggs cross, before Alex Vassallo powered home a Luke Want corner to make it four.
Oundle did pull one back, but Farrell had the last work when he completed his hat-trick from another delicious Want delivery.
Coach Dave Endersbee said: “I am extremely proud of my team. “The defensive six players battled hard and matched Oundle physically, which allowed our attacking players to express themselves to devastating effect.
“The quality of wing play and delivery into the box was truly outstanding.”
Spalding visit Bedford on January 28, before hosting Kings Ely on February 6.
