St Ives Town 2 Deeping Rangers 0: HOLDERS St Ives ended Deeping’s interest in the UCL League Cup on Tuesday night.
The hosts wasted little time seizing the initiative, as Scott Fielding released Conor Washington to round the Rangers keeper and slot home the opener on six minutes.
Those two combined again to seal Deeping’s downfall, with Washington meeting a Fielding pass to slam home the second just before the hour.
The game was played in front of a bumper crowd of 431, who turned up to pay tribute to Saints’ under-18 goalkeeper Harry Williams, who was killed in a road accident at the weekend.
Deeping are scheduled to be back in action at Northampton Spencer on Saturday (3pm).
