DEEPING RANGERS 4 (M Jones 20 & 79, Julian 57, Heron 72) WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 4 (Liversedge 27, Redding 51, Cray 83, Spaughton 90): A LAST-GASP Dan Spaughton header denied depleted Deeping all three points in an Outgang Road UCL Premier Division classic on Tuesday night.
Rangers hit the front after 20 minutes when Tony Battersby’s pass allowed Mark Jones to fire a fierce low effort home.
The scores were level seven minutes later though, when Tom Liversedge flicked in Michael Boyle-Chong’s corner at the near post. Liversedge crashed another effort against the post before the break, as the teams turned around at 1-1.
Wellingborough then took the lead on 51 minutes when stand-in stopper Jamie Lowndes could only get a hand to Mark Redding’s flying header.
But the lead only lasted three minutes, as defender Steve Julian turned in a rebound after George Cox had fired an effort against the woodwork.
The unlucky Cox slammed a long ranger off the post soon after, before Matt Heron fired Rangers ahead from Kev Gilbert’s cross.
Jones looked to have wrapped up the points for Tuncay Korkmaz’s men with his second 11 minutes from time, but Luke Cray’s cheeky chip set up a grandstand finish.
There was still time for Spaughton to meet a Wayne Richardson corner in the dying seconds to clinch a 4-4 draw for the Doughboys.
Considering Deeping went into the game without Josh Moreman, David Burton-Jones, Matty Evans, Spencer Tinkler, Adam Weston and James Doughty, a point isn’t the worst result in the world for them.
Deeping: Lowndes, Gilbert, Fenton, K Jones, Julian, Oliver, M Jones, Cox, Battersby, Heron, Jackson (Leisner).
• Saturday: Deeping v Holbeach Utd (FA Vase, 3pm).
