Pat Rayment insists the new-look Spalding United squad are close to finding top form ahead of the big kick-off.
The Tulips boss is “slightly concerned” by pre-season performances which he has summed up as being “patchy”.
They were held to a 1-1 draw by St Ives Town in the final friendly at the Sir Halley Stewart Field after taking a ninth-minute lead through Josh Moreman’s penalty.
Spalding complete their pre-season programme with trips to Deeping Rangers on Tuesday night and Skegness Town on Saturday.
The Evo-Stik League First Division South season starts at Romulus on August 15.
Rayment said: “I’d like us to be further forward than we are currently.
“The biggest problem we have got at the moment is that a couple of our established players are not up to where we would expect them to be which in turn would help us all immensely.
“This is not through a lack of effort or commitment. It’s just a situation where some players are not on form and as a team we’re not gelling.
“We are assembling a new team and we know everything could flip the other way on the back of one game.
“For half an hour we were very good on Saturday. But 30 minutes out of 90 isn’t good enough.
“We are taking our foot off the pedal and maybe that’s through a lack of experience.
“Half a dozen players are not on form and that’s hurting us.
“But we believe our form is just around the corner. We are happy with full attendance and good tempo at training.
“The pre-season has been patchy and we are slightly concerned.
“We know there is a bit of tweaking to be done and we will be looking for more additions to the squad.”
Meanwhile, Jack Beckett has signed for Grantham Town after being offered a deal with Spalding.
