THRAPSTON TOWN 0 HOLBEACH UNITED 3 (Kennedy pen 73, Keeble 81, Lambley 90): JOHN Chand hailed the strength of his Holbeach squad as super subs Loz Lambley and Shaun Keeble helped secure a third UCL Premier Division win on spin.
The Tigers looked set to be frustrated by lowly Thrapston on Saturday, but three goals in the last 17 minutes saw them cement their impressive position in the top six.
Luke Kennedy got the ball rolling from the penalty spot, before the ageless Keeble and fellow substitute Lambley made their mark.
“The substitutions really had the desired effect,” said Chand, whose side have now won nine of their 13 league games. “Saturday really showed the beauty of having a strong squad.
“I said at the start of the season that everyone would have a role to play and everyone seems to have bought into that philosophy.
“I was never worried that we wouldn’t win, but Wes Lewis, Shaun and Loz were all superb. Shaun especially has been brilliant all season. He’s a great role model for the younger players and is still a first class finisher.”
In truth, the Tigers could have racked up double figures at Chancery Lane.
They dominated from the off, with strike duo Ashley Stevens and Tommy Treacher firing wide in the opening ten minutes.
Keeper Leigh Overton was forced to make a super stop from Deven Ellwood, but the Tigers were always in command.
Thrapston keeper Chris Jones denied the frustrated Stevens on no less than six occasions, while Kennedy, Andrew Tidswell and Mitch Griffiths – the latter with an overhead kick – all went close.
The deadlock was broken when Tidswell was chopped down in the box and Kennedy buried the resulting penalty.
Holbeach secured the points when Lewis afforded the ever-alert Keeble a tap in from close range, before Lambley completed the scoring following a cross from the excellent Tidswell.
The win puts Chand’s Tigers within a point of third-placed King’s Lynn Town.
