Tom Roberts has taken charge at Holbeach United ahead of a key spell in their championship challenge.

He revealed after Saturday’s 4-0 home win over Sileby Rangers that a deal had been agreed to become the Tigers’ manager.

Roberts was appointed as caretaker-boss following the dismissal of Darren Jarvis. He will be assisted by Andrew Tidswell who was among the scorers at the weekend.

Josh Ford (2) and Jake Clitheroe were also on target as Holbeach moved level on points with second-placed AFC Kempston Rovers.

They cut the gap on UCL Premier Division leaders Leicester Nirvana who had a last-gasp defeat at Deeping Rangers.

Holbeach’s derby date at Wisbech Town on Boxing Day is followed by home games with Yaxley and Nirvana then a trip to Kempston.

Roberts said: “Myself and Andrew have now taken over full-time and everything was sorted quickly without any issues.

“It means there will be a smooth transition to stay in charge when there is already a fantastic atmosphere in the dressing room.

“Now we can look forward to the Wisbech game and it’s up to us to capitalise on this busy period by making full use of the squad.”

Reflecting on a fourth successive league win for the Tigers, Roberts added: “I was very happy.

“In the first 15 minutes we were probably a little nervy and Rick Drury made a great save at 0-0. Once we got that first goal we never looked back.

“We could have scored a lot more goals but we’ve got three points and, with six goals in three games, Josh is finding form.”

On man of the match Dan Dougill’s display in midfield, Roberts said: “We know he is a very talented footballer who needs to be looked after as well.

“There is definitely a very bright future for him. He has been patient and now he has shown what he can do.”

Ford is banned for the trip to Wisbech but Ollie Gale and Ollie Pinner will return.
