Pat Rayment resigned as Spalding United manager – but immediately returned to take charge of Saturday’s last-gasp draw which extended their unbeaten league run.

He announced on Friday morning that he had quit due to off-the-field issues.

But Rayment was back for the 2-2 draw at Norton United when substitutes Lee Clarke and Tom Waumsley scored in the final six minutes.

Rayment said: “After many hours of conversations and meetings going late into Friday night, I was given assurances to my satisfaction which prompted me to come back.

“But all the talk has to be put into practice. Everyone wants the club to go forward but the structure in place has to change dramatically.

“This is a wake-up call as a number of things need to be addressed.”

Meanwhile, Spalding head to Stamford tonight in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy with fitness doubts over Nathan Stainfield, Lewis Webb and Jamie Stevens.

Ryan Oliver, Lewis McKue and George Stainfield are cup-tied but Jordan Nuttell comes back into the starting line-up after a couple of appearances with Boston Town to regain fitness following illness.
