New signing Billy Oliver will bring “a totally different dimension” to the Deeping Rangers midfield next term, according to manager Michael Goode.

They have teamed up again having previously worked together at Blackstones and Peterborough Northern Star.

Oliver spent last season at Oakham United and was part of Huntingdon Town’s side which finished runners-up in the UCL Premier Division in 2013-14.

Goode said: “Billy is only 23 years old and he’s keen to get back involved at this level.

“He will bring a totally different dimension to our midfield because he has lots of energy and pace along with the technique to get behind opposition defences.”

Goode was also pleased to agree a deal with Jack Cotton who can play in the heart of the defence or midfield.

The Deeping boss added: “I’m delighted to have him on board.

“He hasn’t played during his first year teaching at The Deepings School but now he wants to get involved.

“He will definitely add quality to the squad. The lads have stayed fit.

“We’re back in training and looking in good shape.

“I’m still hoping to sign another striker but we can be patient and see what happens at other clubs.”

Deeping’s first friendly of the summer is on Friday night against Goode’s former club Blackstones. The match has been switched from Deeping to be played on the 3G pitch at Stamford’s new Borderville Sports Centre.

He said: “We’re looking forward to it.

“I know their manager Phil Gadsby pretty well as he’s a Deeping lad who seems to be putting together a competitive squad after his success with Langtoft United.

“Blackstones are a good club and I enjoyed my three years there.

“I probably left under a slight cloud but there are two sides to every story and I know what happened.”

Meanwhile, Bourne Town will begin their pre-season programme with a trip to Netherton United on Saturday.
