Pre-season friendly: Spalding United 2 Holbeach United 0

Josh Moreman got both goals to settle Saturday’s South Holland pre-season derby at the Sir Halley Stewart Field.

The summer signing converted a first-half penalty and then smashed home a superb volley as Spalding United saw off Holbeach United.

Tom Waumsley and Michael Frew both went close to breaking the deadlock before Sam Murphy was fouled in the box and Moreman converted from the spot.

Neal Spafford, Waumsley and Frew threatened to increase the advantage while the Tigers’ lone striker Josh Ford forced a couple of routine saves from Spalding’s stand-in skipper Michael Duggan.

The lead was doubled when substitute Jordan Nuttell flicked on a high ball and Moreman cracked a left-footed volley past Ricky Drury.

Tulips boss Pat Rayment said: “It was a good fixture for both of us and I’m pleased we kept a clean sheet quite comfortably.”

Tigers assistant-manager Tom Roberts added: “I’m a little bit frustrated with the final score because they didn’t really open us up too often.”
