A lack of quality proved costly for Spalding United.
The absence of several key players showed that the Tulips don’t have the strength in depth to cope.
Mitch Griffiths and Jake Newman have gone, Josh Moreman is banned and Sam Murphy also missed out.
But those facts should not be used as an excuse for a below-par display.
A sixth-minute header by ex-Spalding midfielder Jack McGovern extended Lincoln United’s unbeaten run.
Quite simply the Tulips were not good enough to hit back and they never looked capable of getting into the game.
Left-back Adam Jackson recorded a hat-trick of long-range efforts – the first of which crashed off the crossbar.
However, Spalding could not hold the ball up front or create chances.
Michael Duggan tipped over ex-Holbeach United forward Gary King’s drive but that early goal proved to be the winner.
