Scott Coupland came close to another hat-trick – but the prolific striker had already guided Deeping Rangers to a comfortable win.
A quickfire double early in the second half put the Clarets in total control following Chris Hollist’s opener.
Coupland could have been celebrating a treble at the end, only for Whitworth keeper Lee Baxter to produce a save in the final action.
The result was never in any doubt so it was just a question of how many goals would be added to the tally.
Scott Mooney and Michael Simpson were both denied by Baxter while Luke Hunnings’ header was cleared off the line.
It was no surprise when Deeping went ahead and they produced another terrific move to set up the opportunity.
Tom Smith fed Coupland and Jason Kilbride’s left-wing cross was knocked behind by James Gorman.
The danger was not gone, though, as Charlie Coulson’s corner found Simpson and the rebound fell for Hollist to fire into the roof of the net.
Kilbride was booked for a dive when a penalty appeal was turned down.
Coupland, Mooney and Simpson could have increased the advantage before half-time.
However, the combination between Mooney and Coupland soon paid off.
Mooney’s flick released his strike partner for a typically calm finish past Baxter.
Four minutes later, a neat one-two with Mooney was brilliantly finished off by Coupland’s lob.
Kilbride, Mooney and Coulson missed the target but Danny Bircham was not tested at the other end either.
Dan Flack’s challenge kept out Nathan Burrows to protect the clean sheet.
Coupland couldn’t quite make it 4-0 in stoppage-time but that didn’t really matter too much.
An eight-match unbeaten run since Christmas has kept Deeping in the championship battle.
They are approaching 12 months since a home league defeat and when the Clarets find top form, it’s certainly going to be very tough for anyone to end the dream of promotion.
