In-form Spalding United feel confident of closing the gap on league leaders Stafford Rangers by ending their unbeaten home record on Saturday.

The Tulips have only dropped two points in six games since Marcus Ebdon took charge with support from Danny Hussey and Bob Don-Duncan.

But they face a huge test this weekend as Stafford have won six and drawn three of nine home matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.

Assistant-boss Hussey said: “They are flying at the top of the table and unbeaten at home so they will be very confident.

“We will go out there to enjoy ourselves on a nice pitch which will suit our style of play when there is no pressure on us.

“Stafford have got a bigger budget than ourselves and we have got nothing to lose.

“We feel confident because we are playing well as a team.

“We’ve beaten Leek Town and Coalville Town but this is going to be our hardest test.

“We are on good form at the moment and we can look forward to this game.

“We are still trying to strengthen the squad but we need to bring in the right players.

“We want local lads who know each other and want to work hard as a team. They have got to be able to fit in well because team morale is good.”

Jake Newman starts a three-match ban for a red card during his previous spell at Wellingborough Town.

Sam Murphy, Paul Walker and Mitch Griffiths are all expected to be passed fit.

Jamie Graham is likely to be back in the squad and the Tulips are trying to add new signings.
