Holbeach United dropped to fifth place with a shock home defeat.

The Tigers suffered a setback in their title quest at Carter’s Park on Monday as out-of-sorts Yaxley snatched their first league win since mid-November.

Clear chances were few and far between in a scrappy affair.

The vital goal arrived on 75 minutes when Jack Saunders robbed Ollie Pinner to create an opening which Scott Carter converted.

Holbeach manager Tom Roberts reflected: “We didn’t deserve to win the game but I thought we had done enough to get a draw.

“Sometimes there are fine margins in games and it wasn’t a case of them scoring a great goal.

“A defensive error gifted the winner. It was very easy and disappointing from our behalf.”

Holbeach are back home on Saturday against leaders Leicester Nirvana.

Holbeach: Drury, Worthington, Ward, Dougill (sub Pinner), Cartwright, Jackson, Gale, Tidswell, Gosling, Eyett, Thomas.
