UCL Premier Division - Desborough Town 1 Holbeach United 0

A last-minute penalty sent Holbeach United to defeat on the first day at Desborough Town.

The Waterworks Field has proved a bogey ground for the Tigers in recent seasons and so it proved again.

With the match heading for stalemate Ar Tarn were awarded a penalty with Jake Bettles settling the contest from the spot.

Tigers boss Darren Jarvis said: “It was a disappointing day.

“What little defending we had to do, we did well. Our keeper didn’t have a save to make.

“Of the few chances we created, we should have taken at least one, if not two. We could have done better in that department too.

“To then lose in the dying seconds to a penalty that never was, given by a linesman after the referee initially hadn’t given it, and that in play leading up to it there was a blatant missed offside, is gutting. Credit to Desborough who defended well.

“Moving onto midweek at home to Sleaford, we’ve got a few players returning and at least one new addition to the squad – by the sounds of it we’ll need them after seeing Sleaford’s fantastic result on Saturday!”
