HOLBEACH United enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win over Daventry United in the UCL Premier Division on Saturday, while Spalding United crashed 4-0 at Thrapston Town and Deeping Rangers were destroyed 6-0 at St Ives Town.

After hammering Daventry 6-1 in the League Cup last weekend, the Tigers were always going to be hot favourites at Carter’s Park.

The away side were unlucky not to grab an early lead, but found themselves behind on 25 minutes when Jonny Allen capitalised on a defensive mix-up before slotting home from close range.

John Chand’s side should have been out of sight in the second period, with Andrew Tidswell smashing an effort off the inside of the post and Mitch Griffiths blazing a glorious chance over.

But they grabbed a deserved second ten minutes from time. Lewis Brooks, who had a fine game in central midfield, raced clear and rounded the keeper before drilling past two covering defenders on the line.

That made it three wins in a week for the Tigers, who also beat Boston Town 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, it was an afternoon to forget for Spalding and Deeping.

The Tulips were tonked at promoted Thrapston – who went into the afternoon fifth from bottom – and are now without a victory in four games, having played three of the bottom five in that spell.

Deeping’s trip to St Ives was even worse, with defender Steve Julian dismissed in the 6-0 rout. Conor Washington led the charge with a treble.

In the Peterborough and District League Premier Division, Moulton Harrox lost their unbeaten record as Oundle Town stunned them 3-1 at Broad Lane.

Deeping Rangers Reserves managed an impressive 3-0 home win over St Neots Town Reserves though, thanks to a Thomas Waumsley double and an Anthony Graves strike.
