Manager Michael Goode had no complaints after Deeping Rangers dropped further back in the title race.

The Clarets missed a chance to cut the gap as league leaders Yaxley extended the advantage courtesy of Matt Sparrow’s goal.

Goode admitted: “We were beaten by the better side.

“We were not good enough and we could have lost 2-0 or 3-0.

“We couldn’t set the tempo, we didn’t compete, we didn’t make the right decisions, our passing wasn’t clinical and we were poor defensively.

“Yaxley played well in those conditions and the formation allowed them to perform with intensity.

“The game was won and lost in the opening half an hour.

“I don’t think we created anything going forward and the most disappointing thing is that we didn’t force them to
defend at all.

“When we lost at Holbeach United before Christmas, we told the lads to pull together and enjoy their football to see where it takes us next.

“We had an unbeaten run and if we win our games in hand, we will go above Yaxley.

It’s not ideal for us but we have to keep going. We had an off day when we needed more but we didn’t produce it.

“We’ve got 11 games left – nearly a quarter of the season – and they only have seven to play.

“It’s not ideal for us but we have to keep going. We had an off day when we needed more but we didn’t produce it.

“We had played a couple of teams around the bottom of the league, had a week off and then we didn’t reach the level that we needed against the top team in the league.

“Yaxley probably played as well as they have done all season so credit to them.

“They were better than us and they worked harder so we can have no complaints over the result.”
