DEEPING RANGERS 4 (M Jones 3, Moreman 27, pen 79 & pen 83) SPALDING UNITED 2 (Smith 65, Harris 81): JOSH Moreman fired a hat-trick as Deeping bagged a deserved derby victory at Outgang Road on Tuesday night.
Rangers bossed the UCL Premier Division clash from the off and took the lead through the red-hot Mark Jones inside three minutes.
Moreman doubled the advantage after following up Matt Heron’s shot, but only a string of superb stops from Spalding keeper Nick Conroy kept the score to 2-0 at half time.
Conroy’s heroics continued after the break and the Tulips threatened a comeback when Greg Smith headed home an Alex Lyon cross 25 minutes from time, before a crazy four minutes spell decided the game.
Moreman looked to have made the points safe after scoring from the penalty spot, but Ben Harris hit back immediately for Spalding with a deflected free kick.
Anything other than a win would have been harsh on Deeping though – and Moreman wrapped up the points with a carbon copy penalty seconds later. Both were won by the hat-trick hero, who was fouled by JP Duncliffe on each occasion.
Spalding handed debuts to Simon Ashton and Tom James, but a 4-2 defeat flattered them.
