Two strikers have joined Spalding United – and boss Dave Frecklington is hoping to add three signings.
Former Grantham Town pair Conor Higginson and Danny Durkin are both set to make their debuts for the Tulips on Saturday.
A double deal has been agreed to bring two players on loan to the Sir Halley Stewart Field from a Football League club.
Frecklington wants to get another signing ahead of the home game against Leek Town as top-of-the-table Spalding aim to extend their unbeaten start in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South.
He said: “I’m delighted to bring in Conor and Danny but we won’t stop there.
“I’m looking to get three more deals over the line.
“Players who had been earmarked in the summer are now becoming available and making contact with us.
“Perhaps they realise that they made an error because our start to the season has injected a desire for people to come here and be a part of it.
“We need more energy as the team have looked tired.
“Other teams have also started to work us out a little bit by counter-acting what we are trying to do.
I’m really pleased with the deals we’ve done this week and I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game when the team will look different.Dave Frecklington
“So we need to make sure we have other options.
“I’m really pleased with the deals we’ve done this week and I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game when the team will look different.
“We know what you are going to get against Leek.
“Despite an indifferent start to the season, they will want to be the first team to come to Spalding and beat us – no doubt about that.
“That’s why we have got players in to ensure we kick on and give everybody a lift.”
Higginson (24) started his career at Mansfield Town and arrives from Handsworth Parramore following spells at non-League clubs including Gainsborough Trinity, Worksop Town and Grantham.
Frecklington said: “I’ve been after him for a long time because he works hard and gets into positions where he is a real threat going forward.
“He knows the league and he’s hungry to get back up the ladder to reignite his career.”
Durkin (20) scored 20 goals in 29 games for Harrowby United last term.
Frecklington added: “He is another player who we tried to sign in the summer but he went to Grantham. He has a bright future.
“We have signed strikers because Bradley Wells needs help when teams are putting three central defenders on him.”
Andy Wright and Matt Varley are both rated doubtful after being forced off during last weekend’s Buildbase FA Trophy exit at Gresley.
Neal Spafford, Brad Barraclough and Chris Hamilton are ruled out.
Nathan Whitehead will serve a one-game suspension on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Sam Vince has signed dual registration with Pinchbeck United.
The trip to Romulus has been switched from Monday night to Saturday, October 29, after both clubs were knocked out of the FA Trophy.
