FOOTBALL: Deeping’s unbeaten start ended

Have your say

LONG BUCKBY 2 (Koriya 23, Allen 45) DEEPING RANGERS 1 (Battersby pen 37): SOMETHING had to give when two unbeaten sides clashed on Saturday – and it was Deeping who were left empty handed.

Boasting a 100 per cent record, Buckby took a 23rd-minuted lead at Station Road when Fazel Koriya’s speculative long range strike found a way past James Doughty.

Deeping battled back and were awarded a disputed penalty for handball. Tony Battersby duly dispatched from the spot, only for Richard Allen to glance the hosts back ahead on the stroke of half-time.

After the break Doughty pulled out some fine saves, while at the other end Rangers bossed it for large periods without creating much.

Deeping player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz said: “Getting anything would have ranked as a great result, so going down narrowly in a very tight game is certainly no disgrace.

“We were the better team in the second half but we couldn’t break through again.”

Rangers: Doughty, Evans, Fenton, Julian (K Jones), Tinkler, Burton-Jones, Weston, Heron (Gilbert), Moreman, Oliver (Cox), Battersby. Not used: Korkmaz.
