Jason Kilbride has been ruled out of action until next season after suffering a broken leg in Deeping Rangers’ defeat on Saturday.
The winger was due to have an operation today (Monday) at Bedford Hospital before being allowed to return home.
Kilbride was injured in the first half of the game at AFC Kempston Rovers who went on to beat Deeping 2-1.
Rangers manager Michael Goode said: “Unfortunately he’s going to be out for the rest of the season and maybe a bit longer.
“From where I was standing I couldn’t really tell what had happened but a few other people who were closer told me it was a reckless challenge as Jason hooked the ball away. They felt it should have been a red card.
“We are all gutted for him because he’s a top lad who works hard for the team. His quality was starting to show in the last few games and this is a massive blow for all of us.”
Following a delay due to the injury, Deeping conceded in first-half stoppage-time and went 2-0 down before a reply from Luke Hunnings with 18 minutes left.
