Deeping Rangers skipper David Burton-Jones is back home recovering after being knocked unconscious during Tuesday’s goalless draw.

The derby was overshadowed by the 37th-minute injury to Burton-Jones who had a clash of heads with Peterborough Northern Star Star striker Phil Stebbing.

Ambulances were on the scene quickly but there was a 30-minute delay while he received treatment.

Deeping manager Tuncay Korkmaz said: “He’s at home resting and on the mend.

“He had an X-ray which didn’t highlight any breaks but his face is swollen so that needs to settle down. He also has stitches in his lips.

“To be honest I didn’t see the challenge so I couldn’t comment on what happened.

“It was a tough night for us in general because we had already lost Joe Braithwaite who jarred his knee in a 50-50 tackle.

“There was a half-hour break after Burton-Jones’ injury and the game went a bit flat. Obviously it’s not easy for the lads to carry on when they have seen a team-mate on the floor unconscious.”

As well as Burton-Jones being ruled out of the trip to leaders AFC Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday, Deeping will be without strikers Adam Scotcher and Ian Ward.

Korkmaz added: “There is more pressure on games like Northern Star because we are aiming for the same thing.

“Against Diamonds we can go out there as massive underdogs and hope our young side will cherish the moment in front of a big crowd. I don’t think anyone would expect us to win.”

Deeping: Bircham, Flack, Smith, Tinkler, Braithwaite (Carter), Burton-Jones (Palmer), Wright, Ginty, Goldson-Williams (Sparrow), Hamid, Avis.
