Spalding High School’s under-16 girls football team secured their first trophy this season in the annual South Lincolnshire School Sports Association competition for eight secondary schools.

With victories in the group stage against Giles Academy (2-0) and Boston High School (3-0), Spalding topped their league before a 3-0 semi-final victory over The Deepings School.

The final against arch rivals Sir John Gleed School was a repeat of last year’s competition which went down to a penalty shoot-out.

However, after a nail-biting game, the High School girls were victorious 1-0 with Emma Gent scoring a late winner during extra-time.
