The Deepings School Year 7 team completed a treble of league and cup successes with victory in the Peterborough Schools Cup final.
Deepings added the cup to the South Lincs League title and the Lincolnshire Under-12s Cup with a 5-0 victory over Glinton’s Arthur Mellows Village College in the final at Netherton.
Deepings had beaten Jack Hunt School in the quarter-final and Nene Park Academy in the semi-final while Arthur Mellows had despatched Stanground in their semi-final just 24 hours earlier.
Arthur Mellows started the final brighter than Deepings and forced keeper Max Rigby into a save and Jamie Allen
into last-ditch defending as they dominated the early exchanges.
Deepings couldn’t get into their stride but went ahead against the run of play with their first shot when Keelan Walker fired into the bottom corner.
Suddenly Deepings’ tails were up and they took a stranglehold on the game with Arthur Mellows’ keeper and defence forced into some great work to keep the score at 1-0.
But there was nothing they could do to stop the second goal as Deepings midfielder Archie Rickards fired a superb shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Deepings dominated the second half and added three goals as well as spurning a number of chances.
Harry Barsby scored twice and Finlay Henderson got the other after a run and cross down the left by Oliver Tooth.
Arthur Mellows pushed hard for a consolation goal but a couple of chances near the end eluded them.
