Spalding United are hosting a free Girls & Goals event next month.
The festival will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field between 11am and 2pm for under-7 to under-11 groups but older girls are welcome.
Under the supervision of club coaches and assisted by the Spalding United Girls U16 squad, the players can try out drills, skills and small-sided games to experience what it’s like to be part of a team.
Spalding United Girls football development officer Julian Wheeler said: “We as a club recognise the need to be encouraging girls football which, since England’s fantastic performance in the Women’s World Cup, is getting more and more exposure across the country.
“Both national and local FAs are making a huge effort to promote girls football.
“It’s only right that we offer as many opportunities for the girls to play the game as the boys currently have.
“The club are looking to form five new girls teams for next season at under-7 to 11, although if we can attract older girls into the game then the club would run a girls team at every age group where possible.
“If we can attract enough interest through this event the club intends to operate a Saturday morning Girls Soccer School throughout June, July and August in the run-up to the new season.”
The new teams will play in the Peterborough Junior Alliance League mini-soccer as well as Girls Festivals of Football that the Lincolnshire FA are organising at various venues in the area during the coming season.
The Junior Alliance are also instigating new girls-only leagues for under-12, 14 and 16 for next season.
