Two superbly-taken goals inside seven first-half minutes killed off Spalding United’s hopes of reaching the final of the Lincolnshire FA Senior Cup.
On a scorching afternoon when neither team managed to play to their full potential, Stamford were worthy of their 2-0 interval lead.
But the Tulips dug in deep and the second half was more of an even contest as only a wild shot in the final minute prevented the game going to a penalty shoot-out.
Jordan Smith broke the deadlock with a smart far-post finish on 25 minutes while former Tulips midfielder David Bell increased the home lead on 32 minutes with a 30-yard effort that curled just inside the far post.
Goalkeeper Michael Duggan had little chance of getting near to either effort.
In a more competitive second period, teenager Jonny Lockie came off the bench to volley in a low-struck cross from fellow substitute Tom Waumsley at the far post in the 74th minute.
As the game edged into added time Lockie again pounced, only to fire high over the target.
After falling into two-goal arrears the Tulips were within inches of closing the gap when skipper Nathan Stainfield rose highest in a crowded area to meet Sam Downey’s corner to head just wide of the target.
Two minutes before the interval Peter Denton was at his best to turn a close-range effort by Jenk Acar round a post, the Lincoln City loanee having featured in a neat movement with Brad Barraclough. From the corner Stainfield again went close with a firm header.
With a gentle breeze at their backs for the second period, Spalding began to win more possession and create openings. Goalkeeper Denton produced a good low save from a free-kick.
Lockie replaced Matt Varley in the 68th minute and was in the right place at the right time to reduce the arrears.
But Stamford held onto the advantage and will now meet Lincoln United in the final.
