LOCAL FOOTBALL: Saints march to fine victory

Have your say

FC KIRTON 1 TYDD ST MARY 4: DEPLETED Tydd made light work of Kirton as they cruised to a cracking win in Boston League Division Two.

The Saints made a slow start when right back Shaun Murfitt put through his own net. But they were level instantly, as Mark Garner’s lofted ball over the top for stand in striker Mark Greenacre, who neatly tucked home.

Tydd then took the lead when a flighted ball by Stephen Cousins found Ben Thompson at the back post.

It got even better before the break, as Gary Drake delivered for Cousins to get in front of the keeper and head home.

The scoring was completed by man-of-the-match Aaron Parker, who went on a mazy run past three defenders before slamming home.

(AET, Punchbowl win 3-1 on pens)

PENALTIES decided this entertaining Spalding Sunday League KO Cup clash.

Punchbowl raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Ford and Phillips, but Lutton kept plugging away.

Their efforts were rewarded when a low cross from Ben Thompson was converted by the lively Tim Brookin.

Lutton started the second half on top too – and levelled when Wayne Congreve scored from a long range free kick.

Both teams had chances to wrap up the game with Tom McEwan rattling the crossbar from distance and Ash Gedney hitting the post for the away side late on. But it needed penalties – and Punchbowl held their nerve.

TAVERN moved into the second round of the FA Sunday Cup with this super success.

Plough broke away to score the opener through Michael Bannister, but Mark Lovelace slotted home the leveller before the break.

Lovelace was involved in the late winner two, as Matt Kennedy fired in off the bar.
