Depleted Long Sutton Athletic picked up a hard-fought 4-4 draw at Maccasports in Division One – despite missing seven first-teamers.
Having played no football since before the Christmas break, Sutton looked rusty from the off and fell 2-0 down.
But the Magpies turned that deficit around to go in 3-2 up at half time thanks to a double from Ryan Lennon and a Jake Clitheroe strike.
The home side notched twice early in the second period to put Sutton behind again, only for another Clitheroe effort to secure a point.
Sutton boss Vince Mackie said: “Hopefully this will get the rustiness out of their systems as we need to be much stronger for the coming matches.”
Sutton’s promotion push continues with a home clash against Stamford Bels on Saturday (3pm).
• After going four weeks without a game, Pinchbeck United Reserves kicked off 2013 with a 3-0 loss at Langtoft United Reserves.
It was a case of score when you’re on top for Pinchbeck – and they failed their task in the first half.
United were left to furiously count the missed attempts in a goalless opening period, which proved costly.
Chris Beale and Luke Harrison were the most guilty of profligacy, with chances from a one-on-one and a close-range header respectively, going begging.
It didn’t take long for Langtoft to show them how it is done after the break. The home side went 1-0 up on the hour following some slack marking, before a clumsy Harrison handball gifted the hosts a penalty on the hour.
Then, as Pinchbeck changed their system in search of a comeback, Langtoft struck a killer third to leapfrog them in the table.
