MARCH SS A U/9s 1 HOLBEACH UTD U/9s 1 (AET, Holbeach win 5-4 on pens): BRAD Whitmore kept his cool to guide Holbeach to glory in this ‘winner takes all’ Fenland League title play-off.

After the game finished 1-1 in normal time, Whitmore buried the young Tigers’ fifth penalty in a dramatic shoot-out to clinch the league championship.

Holbeach knew they had a tough test on their hands at Wisbech, with both league meetings finishing 1-1.

March started the brighter and soon found themselves 1-0 up after scoring from a corner.

Although the Tigers improved, they couldn’t find an instant leveller and went in one down at the interval.

That all changed seven minutes into the second half, as midfielder Billy Barnes broke clear to level the scores with a crucial strike.

From then on it was end to end action and both sides had chances, but neither could break the deadlock in normal time. Extra time was goalless to, setting up a nervy penalty shoot-out.

March buried their first four penalties, which were cancelled out by Holbeach’s Barnes, Mikey Bailey, Ewan McCracken and William Taylor.

March’s fifth penalty then went wide of Charlie King’s goal, allowing Whitmore to fire home the pivotal fifth to wrap up a deserved league crown.

Squad: Charlie King, William Taylor, Brad Whitmore, Mikey Bailey, Ewan McCracken, Billy Barnes,Cameron Oko, Lewis Curson, Joseph Rickerby and Kieron Filby.
