JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Joy of six has familiar ring for Spalding lads

Have your say

GUNTHORPE SKY U/10s 1 SPALDING ATHLETIC U/10s 6: SPALDING smashed six goals for the fourth game on the spin to finish 2011 in third place in the league.

They started well, as Jack Sawyer’s through ball found man-of-the-match Sam Bayly, who saw his shot come back off the post.

Unfortunately for Gunthorpe, the ball was inadvertently turned in by one of their defenders.

It was soon 2-0, as Sawyer swivelled and hit the net following a goalmouth scramble. Jamie Mills was unfortunate to not score with a header soon after and seconds later Bayly hit the post from outside the area with a sweet strike.

However, Mills eventually made it 3-0 with a tap in after good work from captain Jack Holland.

The goals kept on coming, as Mills got his second from close range after the break and Bayly fired number five direct from a corner.

Gunthorpe did pull one back, despite the efforts of Holland and Samuel Burden, who were superb all game.

But Spalding had the last word, saving their best goal until last.

Showing some great passing, they switched the play to the right wing, where Bayly beat his man and crossed the ball to Harry Loveridge, who hit a first-time shot into the far corner.
