Deeping Rangers 1 Yaxley 2: YAXLEY stunned Rangers as they completed an unlikely UCL Premier Division double on Saturday.

A first-half brace from Justin Ives – who was making his first start for the Cuckoos – was enough for all three points at Outgang Road.

Sub Johnny Hands eventually beat stand-in Yaxley stopper Ricky Hailstone with a back-post tap in during the closing stages, but Deeping failed to conjure up a leveller.

Rangers player/boss Tuncay Korkmaz offered no excuses for the surprise defeat, that should see rivals Yaxley safe for another season.

He said: “Full credit to Yaxley and we got what we deserved out of the match – absolutely nothing.

“We didn’t have enough quality to break down a team that defended really well and when we did get in on goal, Ricky made one really good save in each half.”

Deeping: Crockett, Smitheringale, Cornell, Jones, Wood (Hands), Hughes (Harrold), French, Stevenson, Jones, Heron, Gilbert. Unused: Norman, Korkmaz.

Saturday - Wellingborough v Deeping (3pm).

ROTHWELL TOWN 3 (Gilkes 35 & 79, Chambers pen 81)

BELEAGUERED Bourne dropped into the bottom four of UCL Division One after this comprehensive Abbey Lawn defeat.

Playing at this level for the first time in their history, the cash-strapped Wakes are really struggling.

Louis Gilkes broke the deadlock after 35 minutes, before doubling the Rothwell lead 11 minutes from time.

Gary Chambers sealed all three points for the Bones from the spot soon after. Bourne’s Craig Rook was sent off for deliberate handball in the penalty incident.

There was more bad news for the Wakes, with wideman Johnny Currall taken to hospital with a nasty-looking ankle injury.

Wakes: Jarman, Rook, Smith, Hood, Cardall, Humphreys (Munton), Currall (Dunn), Mason, Staffieri, Gray, Brockbank. Not used: Jesson.

Tonight – Wakes v Whitworhs (7.45pm); Saturday – Wakes v Potton United (3pm).
