FOOTBALL: Wakes waltz to Heckington win

Have your say

BOURNE Town’s impressive pre-season continued with a deserved 2-0 win over Heckington at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday.

The Wakes bossed the first half, with Danny Pick, Tom Caldicott and Seb Hood all having great chances to open the scoring.

Both goals arrived after the break, with new recruits Caldicott and ex-Spalding United youngster James Allen netting for Darren Munton’s men.

George Holliday slipped through the in-form Caldicott for the opener, before Allen beat the offside trap to double the advantage late on.

Off the pitch at Bourne, Steve Elger has stepped up to fill the assistant manager role vacated by long-serving Phil Jarman, who stepped down last week. Elger previously held the same role with the reserve team.

Elsewhere, Deeping Rangers battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw with higher-graded Lincoln United at Outgang Road. New signing Michael Byrne continued his excellent pre-season with a brace, but Tuncay Korkmaz’s men will be disappointed to have blown a 3-1 lead.
