Spalding United picked up an important 2-1 win at Desborough Town on Tuesday night as they jumped up to third in the UCL Premier Division table.

A Ben Williams own goal (17) and TJ Nightingale’s sixth goal in three games (39) put the Tulips in a strong position at half time.

Kevin Byrne (55) got hosts Ar Tarn back in the game, but Spalding clung on to their lead to leapfrog South Holland rivals Holbeach United in the table – and close the gap on leaders St Ives to four points.

Quorn went second with a 2-0 success over Long Buckby and are emerging as serious to title candidates.

Elsewhere, Bourne Town made progress in the Hinchingbrooke Cup after edging out Rothwell Corinthians 1-0 at the Abbey Lawn.

Ben Easson (23) fired the Wakes into the last eight.
