Holbeach United manager Glen Maddison has vowed to ‘do his damnedest’ to keep hold of key defender Joe Braithwaite amid interest from Deeping Rangers.

The Tigers’ vice captain has been a revelation since signing from Sleaford Town in the summer – and that hasn’t gone unnoticed, with second-placed Rangers tabling a seven-day approach.

Deeping’s move for the centre back has rocked Maddison ahead of Saturday’s trip to S & L Corby (3pm), as Holbeach bid to make it six UCL Premier Division wins on the trot.

The Tigers boss said: “I’ll do my damnedest to convince Joe to stay. He’s been our best player this season and I’d hate to lose him.

“Maybe a month or so ago it would have been an easy call for him, but we’ve improved so much. I hope he wants to stay with us.

“We played well against Corby just over a week ago and deserved to win. They are in a rut and we need to capitalise on that.”

New signing Frazer Bayliss is in the squad for the first time, but midfielders Tom Sergeant and Nick Bishop are both banned.
