FOOTBALL: Tigers and Tulips continue winning streaks, Deeping held

Have your say

SPALDING United and Holbeach United beat Huntingdon Town and Irchester United 4-2 and 5-1 respectively to keep their impressive UCL Premier Division runs going on Saturday, while Deeping Rangers were held 1-1 by lowly Wellingborough Town.

Starting at Carter’s Park, goals from Andrew Tidswell (2), Craig Parker (2) and Tommy Treacher made it an immaculate eight wins from as many games for John Chand’s charges.

They did fall behind early on, but soon recovered to lead 3-1 at the break – and could even afford a late penalty miss from Tidswell.

Holbeach remain second with the only 100 per cent record in the table, but with two games in hand on leaders St Ives Town, who won 3-0 at Sleaford Town.

It wasn’t quite as one-sided at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, as the Tulips also battled back from an early setback to extend their winning run to six games.

Ben Seymour-Shove (2) slotted the visitors ahead, but Franny Green’s fifth goal in three games soon restored parity (9) before Shane Tolley’s 12th of the season on the half hour put the Tulips ahead.

Miles Chamberlain (50) headed number three from a Green cross, setting the stage for Tolley (82) to wrap up the points.

A late Charlie Bower effort couldn’t stop Spalding moving up to third in the standings.

Meanwhile, lowly Wellingborough halted Deeping’s winning run at Outgang Road.

James Doughty saved an early penalty before Alex Beck fired Rangers ahead, only for the visitors to bag a point with a goal from their second spot-kick of the game.

In UCL Division One, Bourne Town were on the wrong end of an Abbey Lawn thriller with Olney Town. They went down 4-3 and slide into the bottom four of the standings.

Elsewhere, Pinchbeck United finally broke their duck for the season in the Peterborough and District League’s Premier Division – and how. They thrashed Riverside Rovers 5-1 in a basement battle at Knight Street.

Moulton Harrox were also winners, edging out Whittlesey United 3-2 at Broad Lane to stay second.
