Andrew Tidswell fired a first-half hat-trick as Holbeach United beat Shepshed Dynamo 3-1 in the UCL Premier Division on Saturday, while Deeping Rangers beat Huntingdon Town 2-1.

Going into the Carter’s Park clash as UCL Premier Division leaders, the Tigers made the kind of start you’d expect from a side full of confidence.

They were ahead inside two minutes when leading scorer Tidswell headed home a cracking Tommy Treacher cross from close range. That lead was doubled on six minutes, with Tidswell racing clear and shrugging off a clear foul before slotting superbly into the bottom corner.

The hat-trick was completed on 26 minutes, with Treacher again the provider for his strike partner. Tidswell – who was struggling with flu throughout the game – couldn’t really miss from six yards, as Holbeach effectively sealed the points before half time.

Shepshed, who were much-improved after the break, pulled one back when Sam Wood (78) picked out the top corner with a stunning 25-yard free kick – and then were awarded a penalty five minutes from time.

But Keiron Davies ballooned the ball well over, as John Chand’s charges cleared another serious hurdle in their bid for the title. They remain three points clear of St Ives, who crushed Harborough Town 8-1, and Quorn, who went down 1-0 at Yaxley.

Over at Outgang Road, a late Spencer Tinkler strike earned Deeping maximum points over Huntingdon.

Ash Stevens (4) put Tuncay Korkmaz’s men ahead early on, but Jamie Graham levelled from the spot moments before half time.

That’s how it stayed up until the 75th minute, when a rare goal from defender Tinkler wrapped up the points for the hosts. Deeping remain fifth, ten points behind leaders Holbeach.

Elsewhere, there was more frustration for Spalding United, who saw their FA Vase game at Sutton Town postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday (7.45pm) – but with bad weather forecast this week, that date must already be under threat.

Down in UCL Division One, Bourne Town could only draw 1-1 at the home of basement boys Burton Park Wanderers.

In the Peterborough and District League, Moulton Harrox suffered their first Premier Division defeat of the season as they went down 1-0 at Whittlesey United. Harrox are still sitting pretty in third though, with five games in hand on leaders Peterborough Sports.

There was better news for Pinchbeck United, as they saw off Kings Cliffe United 3-2 on home soil.

Crowland Town were also 2-0 winners over high-flying Oakham United, while Long Sutton Athletic won their Division One derby at Sutton Bridge United 5-1.

In the same division, Holbeach United Reserves went down 7-3 at Langtoft United and Moulton Harrox Reserves beat Sawtry 2-0 to stay second.
