Spalding United reached the final of the UCL Knockout Cup with a penalty shoot-out win over Yaxley on Tuesday night, while Pinchbeck United dented Moulton Harrox’s Peterborough Premier Division title hopes after drawing 1-1 at Broad Lane.
Ex-Tulip Alex Lyon fired Yaxley ahead in the final minute of the first half – and the hosts held that lead all the way up until the final exchanges.
That’s when Miles Chamberlain headed a dramatic 90th-minute leveller to force an additional period of extra time.
No further goals were added, ensuring penalties would decide who was to meet St Ives Town in the final.
It was Spalding who held their nerve, with Jamie Thurlbourne, Lee Beeson and Dan Cotton converting to clinch a 3-0 shoot-out success.
Meanwhile, Pinchbeck struck a last-gasp leveller to put the skids on Moulton’s title charge.
Harrox thought they’d grabbed another three points when Tom Gosling struck in the 89th minute, but Dan Cole instantly levelled for United.
The point stretches Moulton’s lead at the top to two points.
