PINCHBECK United are facing a selection crisis ahead of their Peterborough Premier Division opener with King’s Cliffe United on Saturday.

The title hopefuls are certain to be without key trio Tom Roberts, Matt Hocking and Tom Gosling at Knight Street, while player/boss Ian Dunn is also unavailable.

Andy Law and Johnny Clay are also doubts, but Ollie Maltby and Dan Woods have been passed fit.

With that in mind, Dunn reckons his charges still have enough in their locker to get the job done though.

He said: “It’s not ideal and we’re stretched a little, but I still feel we have enough quality to win.

“It’s up to the lads who are playing to keep their shirt. If they go out and beat King’s Cliffe then it’d be hard to drop them.

“Overall we’ve had a decent pre-season and I know we’re ready. Last Saturday (a 6-2 loss to Boston Town) highlighted a few things we needed to look at and we put that right in training.”

There is a boost for Pinchbeck though, with ex-Holbeach United defender Mark Thompson agreeing to sign for the club.

He is likely to make his competitive debut for the club against King’s Cliffe – who beat UCL Premier Division sides S & L Corby and Yaxley in pre-season.

Kick-off is 3pm on Saturday, with South Holland rivals Crowland Town also hosting league new boys St Neots Town Reserves.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck’s first-ever club day at the Glebe Field was hailed as a massive success.

The bash, which saw Pinchbeck’s first team, U/12s (Red and Blue) and Reserves compete, celebrated the launch of the recently refurbished club and bar facilities at the Glebe Field.

Pinchbeck chairman Bruce Patterson said: “The results certainly didn’t go in our favour, but for promoting the club in a positive way I couldn’t have wished for better.

“It just seemed like everybody in Pinchbeck and the surrounding areas had turned up to support. I would say between 500 and 600 people were there showing their support for all the teams that were involved.

“I would just like thank all the teams involved and wish them all good luck and success in the forthcoming season. I would also like to thank all this season’s sponsors who were in attendance on the day.”
