No less than four key men will miss Deeping’s UCL Premier Division opener with AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday (3pm).

Skipper David Burton-Jones, striker Ryan Oliver, the versatile Dan Flack and youngster Jamie Forbes must all sit out the Outgang Road clash.

Although promoted Diamonds are among the favourites for the title, Rangers chief Tuncay Korkmaz feels they remain something on an unknown quantity.

He said: “It’s hard to say how good they’ll be.

“On paper they obviously look pretty strong, but we’ll have to wait and see. It’s certainly a challenging fixture for us to have first up.

“We’ve improved in a lot of areas over the summer and will need a little time to gel as a squad.”

Diamonds have strengthened substantially over the summer, with former UCL title-winning striker Russ Dunkley, from King’s Lynn Town, the pick of their signings.

They also have the prolific Alfie Taylor and talented Fazel Koriya on their books.
