FOOTBALL: Pinchbeck’s second string in fantastic form

Have your say

KETTON 1 PINCHBECK UNITED RES 4: IMPRESSIVE Pinchbeck cruised past Peterborough League Division One outfit Ketton to record an eye-catching pre-season success on Saturday.

Gary Coomes’ side settled well and were causing their hosts plenty of problems – so it came as no surprise when Luke Gardner pounced from close range to make it 1-0 after ten minutes.

Ketton quickly responded with a well-worked leveller, but Gardner restored the Pinchbeck lead with a superb left footed free kick from 25 yards. It got even better for the visitors when Dan Thornally, who led the line superbly, made it 3-1 just before the break.

The second half saw both teams make plenty of changes, but man-of-the-match Jack Wycherley scored a great solo goal to clinch the spoils for Pinchbeck. He picked the ball up in his own half and outstripped the Ketton defence, before coolly lobbing the advancing keeper.

Boss Coomes said: “They say pre-season is of little importance, but for me it was a great performance.

“With a number of debutants and some A team guys helping out the effort put in was outstanding to a man.”

Pinchbeck: Hudson (Dawson), Harper (Clow), Wilson (Endersby) West, Dickinson (Bingham), Wycherley, Moore (Pickering), Harrison, Gardner, Harker (Sharman), Thornally.
