DEEPING RANGERS 4 HARROWBY UNITED 2: Deeping began their bid for county glory with a comfortable victory over UCL Division One high-fliers Harrowby on Tuesday night.

Alex Beck (2), Mitch Griffiths and Ondre Odain netted for Tuncay Korkmaz’s UCL Premier Division table-toppers, who progress to the second round of the revamped county competition.

Striker Beck put the hosts ahead on ten minutes, but UCL Division One high-fliers Harrowby replied when Scott Webb netted nine minutes later. Griffiths (52) and Odain (72) looked to have settled the tie for Rangers, only for Lee Shaw (80) to set up a tense final ten minutes.

But Beck had other ideas, firing the clincher five minutes from time.

Deeping’s reward is a home tie with the winner of Tuesday’s clash between Sleaford Town and Bourne Town.

A satisfied Korkmaz said: “We played some really good stuff, especially in the second half. If I’m honest, we probably should have scored a few more goals.

“Although it was disappointing to concede two goals, we were missing quite a few players and I’m pleased to have got through.

Next up for Rangers is a tricky trip to Desborough Town in the UCL Premier Division.

Forwards Josh Moreman, Ryan Oliver and Matt Heron should all return as Korkmaz’s men go in search of a ninth league success on the spin.

Deeping: Doughty, Tinkler, M Simpson, Ashton, Cartwright, Burton-Jones, Griffiths, Ginty, Beck, Odain Parker. Subs: Heron, Oliver, Birtles, Stone.
