Holbeach moved into second place in the Premier Division of the United Counties League with this derby success at Carters Park.

The Tigers grabbed the initiative with two similar goals just a minute apart in the first half.

The first goal arrived after 18 minutes, Andy Tidswell’s ball in behind the visiting defence finding Jordan Thomas who finished with a powerful angled shot across keeper Danny Bircham.

Within a minute Tidswell had played Jake Clitheroe clear of a static defence and the midfielder finished with a low shot just inside the right hand post.

Tidswell was close to getting on the scoresheet himself just before the hour mark, timing his run to meet a Thomas pass but stumbling as he pushed the ball beyond Bircham.

Bircham saved well from Thomas who latched on to a Josh Ford lay off.

Deeping had rarely made much headway against the rugged home defence but they were back in the game after 81 minutes when a jinking run from Scott Coupland saw him pull the ball back for Jezz Goldson-Williams to fire home.

Three minutes later the outcome was settled as Jack Cotton’s slip allowed Clitheroe in behind to drill a low shot into the far corner.

David Burton-Jones almost reduced the arrears with a header from a corner in added time but a defender deflected the ball to safety.
