FOOTBALL: Bourne beaten after thrilling tie

Have your say

BOURNE TOWN 2 (Hood 10, Kilbride pen 65) RUSHDEN & HIGHAM UNITED 3 (Mann pen 34 & 45, Lord 63): THERE was no shortage of excitement at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday as the Wakes were edged out in a five-goal thriller.

Seb Hood fired Bourne into a tenth-minute lead on home soil, but a Jory Mann double had Rushden and Higham ahead before the break.

He struck from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time, then notched a second in the closing stages of the first period.

Ben Lord made it 3-1 as the Lankies closed on a double against Darren Munton’s men, only for Jason Kilbride’s penalty to get them back in the game moments later.

With just three UCL Division One games left this season, Bourne can finish as high as tenth or as low as 15th in the 17-team division.

Remaining fixtures: Monday – Wakes v Huntingdon Town (3pm); April 21 – Wakes v Wellingborough Whitworth (3pm); April 28 – Wakes v Buckingham Town (3pm).
