The final countdown starts tonight in Holbeach United’s title challenge.

With 10 games to go, Tigers boss Seb Hayes has already written off their championship chances.

But he knows they can stay in the race for promotion as the top two will go up at the end of this season from the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League’s Premier Division.

Holbeach are back home against Cogenhoe United – just 12 days after a 1-0 defeat in Northamptonshire left Hayes “disgusted, angry and frustrated”.

The Cooks are coming to Carter’s Park on a run of six successive league wins.

They led 2-0 when the fixture in mid-January was abandoned due to Tigers midfielder Dan Dougill’s double leg fracture.

After losing away and the home game being abandoned, perhaps it will be third-time lucky.

Hayes said: “We have a chance of throwing ourselves back into the title race if we win games well.

“Stacy Cartwright was spot on at the weekend when he said this is now a 10-game season.

“Yaxley have got the points and everyone else needs to catch up with games in hand.

“Whoever wins the most games will take the title but four teams will slip up.

“Mathematically, we can do it. We must take as many points as we can by showing more consistency than we’ve done recently.

“If we play like we did last Tuesday at Peterborough Northern Star then we have got a chance.

“If we don’t perform well in the next couple of games, we can forget about the title.

“We know Cogenhoe are a threat and we need to stop them.

“After losing away and the home game being abandoned, perhaps it will be third-time lucky. We need to put it right and show some pride.

“So far this season, nobody has done the double over us.

“We’ll come out all guns blazing because we have to win this game.”

Charley Sanders is ruled out with a hamstring injury and Joe Smith (thigh) faces a fitness test.

Saturday’s home game was called off as Sileby Rangers failed to turn up.
