FOOTBALL: Wakes fully punished for errors

Four second-half goals sent Bourne Town to an eighth home league defeat of the season.

The Wakes were looking comfortable before the break - but a series of efforts gifted the points to Irchester United.

Boss Rob Middleton said: "With the personnel available over the bank holiday weekend, we tried to keep the game tight and make it difficult for them to break us down.

"We did relatively well and kept a clean sheet in the first half by sticking to the task.

"However, our pace and energy levels weren't as good as they had been in the final third at Burton Park Wanderers the previous week.

"Within 10 minutes of the second half, we were 2-0 down.

"We should have dealt with a ball across the six-yard box for the opening goal.

"Irchester's second goal was scrappy came when the ball spilled out of the keeper's hands in a 50-50 challenge.

"We changed things around but we weren't good enough at the back and the fourth was an own goal.

"Three of the goals were totally avoidable so we've got to look at those mistakes.

"If you let the ball go across the six-yard box, teams are going to hurt you. We've got to learn and do better in those areas."

Bourne are back home on Monday against Harrowby United.
