FOOTBALL: Bourne Town looking to build on positive performances
Joint boss Rob Middleton was happy with Bourne Town’s efforts - despite a last-minute blow.
The Wakes were beaten by 10-man Melton Town at Abbey Lawn on Saturday in the final home game of 2018.
Middleton said: “We felt gutted at the end but overall, I was really pleased with the performance.
“We’ve been through a couple of bad results but the most important thing is that we have got something to build on.
“Melton are a top side and I felt sorry for the lads after putting in a lot of graft.
“We’ve got to pick ourselves up again and start collecting points to match the level of performances.
“I was aware that Melton have good players as a few of those lads worked with me at Kirby Muxloe last season.
“I knew what they were all about so we set ourselves up to be hard to beat.
“Melton had more of the ball but there were a few chances and I was pretty pleased at half-time.
“We asked for more of the same but credit to Melton for trying to win the game even after the sending-off.
“An individual cost us the game when Melton broke down the right-hand side, pulled the ball back and slotted it in.
“There was only two or three minutes to go so there wasn’t much time to respond.”
