FOOTBALL: Talent on show at Tulip Trophy

Hundreds of youngsters and supporters are ready for an elite tournament in Spalding this weekend.

The second Tulip Trophy is being held at the Sir Halley Stewart Field on Saturday and Sunday from 9am until around 5.30pm.

Youth teams in under-7, 9 and 11 age groups will be in action on Saturday, followed by the under-8, 10 and 12 players on Sunday.

Organiser Lewis Thorogood said: "It's going to be another great event.

"Last year was a roaring success with 2,000 people here and hopefully it will be the same again.

"A lot of people in the town turned out, even if it was only for a couple of hours.

"We are raising funds for Spalding United and putting on a great show for these talented young footballers.

"South Holland District Council have been very helpful to get everything set up.

"A lot of volunteers will be working long hours until we are clearing up on Monday."
