Top meets bottom tonight as Spalding United’s under-21s aim to extend their advantage.

The Tulips are seven points clear at the top of the Lincolnshire FA Under-21 Development League’s south section with an unbeaten record plus a vastly superior goal difference.

They are back in action for the first time in more than two months with a trip to bottom-of-the-table Sleaford Sports at Eslaforde Park.

Spalding under-21 manager Lewis Thorogood said: “It feels such a long time since we had a league game and we’ve only had a couple of friendlies.

“We’ll take our full squad to Sleaford but I don’t think any of the senior team will be involved this time.

“We are taking nothing for granted.

“There are five league games left in the group section and we know four wins would seal the title.

“The next four games are winnable but my only concern at this stage is the long break since we beat Boston Town 6-1 on December 19.”

New signing Jack Padley is set to face his former club and the Tulips may add another defender.

Thorogood added: “I’ve felt frustrated over a lack of ability to keep a clean sheet.

“I’m probably a bit fussy but we always look capable of scoring goals.

“We need to keep it tighter at the back so I’d like to shore things up defensively.

“It’s not a case of bringing in players for now. We want to see the benefits going forward with potential for next season and beyond then.”

Striker George Couzens has been back at Sleaford Town for first-team experience, scoring in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Oadby Town. Archie Moyses is the only fitness doubt.
